Sinopsis
Big Nate follows adventure and misfortune Nate Wright, an enthusiastic and rebellious sixth grader, along with his classmates and teachers at Public School 38, and other people and animals in the fictional town of Rackleff, Maine. He is described as a boy with little interest in the study or in accordance with the standards. His lack of interest led him to some conflicts with his social science teacher. Godfrey, whom he considers his arch-enemy. Peirce also focused on Nate's home life and friendship with his friends, Francis and Teddy. Answering questions from fans in the Washington Post, Peirce revealed the following about strip creation:
Enslave the Mollusk (ETM) is a garage band that is featured on Big Nate . It features Nate as backing vocalist and drummer, with his best friend Francis on electric guitar and Teddy on the keyboard, as well as Artur as the lead vocalist. Chad is a roadie band. Enslave the Mollusk has a big role in Big Musical's Big Nate . They performed twice: once during Novel In Zone when P.S 38 started the fitness zone, and also in one of the school dances.
Femme Fatality
Femme Fatality is Nate's favorite super hero comic. The pictures were never shown, but there were several eponymous character appearances, as the life-size comic strips in a 2002 comic and as a cosplay actor visited Klassic Komix in 2004. His character is very suggestive, judging by the reaction of Nate and most of the other male characters. Some girls show an annoyance over Nate's obsession with the comic, but Nate insists she only reads it for the stories. One of Nate's earlier comic books was Red Sonja.
P.S. 38
P.S. 38 is the school of Nate and his friends present and where most of the comics happen. The school is over 100 years old and very beaten and boring.
Jefferson Jefferson_Middle_School "> Jefferson_Middle_School"> Jefferson Secondary School
Jefferson Middle School is a high school near P.S. 38 and is a school sister institution. High school kids are PS.38 children's rivals and beat them in almost everything. PS. 38 just beat Jefferson in 'Snowdown'. Jefferson lost, even though they were tricked by packing up snow around the statue of a spare knight.
Jefferson's Students
- Nolan : Bully to Nate and his friends.
- Dawn Michelle : Appears on Big Nate Goes For Broke. She apparently has a group of girls who follow her. He asks Nate if he can sign his players. Nate allows him quickly because he thinks he's cute, but Dawn plays dirty tricks by writing "P.S.38 STINKS!" on his players and tease him with his friends. Nate described it as turbo-cute.
- Emma : A member of the posse of Dawn Michelle and it looks like they are friends.

Creation of the Nate comic strip
Several previous strips will show weekly adventures of Nate's own comic creations, drawn on notebook paper with more child-like drawing styles. Some of these characters have appeared on the newer strips. Nate's character includes -
- Dr. Cesspool : an incompetent surgeon whose faults in the operating room tend to be fatal or debilitating. She has an assistant named Maureen Biology, who also serves as Cesspool's love interest.
- Chipson and Biff Biffwell Chips : Two incompetent TV reporters who sometimes appear on other strips who interview characters. Nate also has them interviewing characters like Santa Claus, Mother Nature, Sandman and sometimes Mrs. Godfrey or his own father.
- Ken Doolittle : TV talent show host. Ellen is often attracted to her show failing in some activities or fooling herself.
- And Cupid : A god of romance that sometimes ignores or confuses her work to bring a happy partner together.
- Superdad : Nate's parody of his own father as 'The only super balding hero with a little stomach,' which sometimes appears with Ellen as his 'stupid close associate.' Superdad usually avoids crime against or face danger, preferring to lie on the sofa or delegate his work to 'Chore Boy' (Nate himself.)
- Snuggles Family : A parody of a healthy middle-class family, consisting of Bob's husband, Honey's wife, Timmy's son, Punkin's daughter and Fluffy's dog. Never seen since 2001.
- Moe Mentum : A Hollywood stuntman is stuck in a dangerous action in a very directional action or horror movie.
- Slim Stubby : Country-western singer struggling to become a second-rate celebrity, probably a parody of Slim Dusty.
- The Pilgrims of Plymouth : This strip will appear Thanksgiving week. Instead of showing traditional 'First Gratitude', the strip will show that pilgrims have wild parties, complete with tank dunk and bikini mud wrestling. Never seen since 2004
- Leo Tard : Dance instructor to be completely hopeless. A series of strips mocking the ability of Nate Ellen's younger sister.
- Ultra-Nate : Nate's parody about him, but superhero with superpowers, flying, and super suction.
- Mega-Chad : Appears on Big Nate in the Zone and Big Nate Lives it Up as an Ultra Nate sidatick. It has never been seen on comic strips, and is therefore not so well known.
- Action Cat : Comics about cats crushed by vehicles. There were several Action Cat comics in 1993, but none of them have since, probably because some complaints about the strip are too harsh.
- Luke Warm, private eye : Nate's comics about the detective he made. Luke is very awkward, and not very efficient. The comic first appeared on January 2, 2013 in "Big Nate: Flips Out". The comic was later destroyed, because When Nate was hypnotized he could not make it neat enough.
- '' 'Claude The Fairy Stupid Ideas' '': The Nate comic characters that appear in many books include "Big Nate: In The Zone". He is portrayed as a little fairy who gives bad advice to others.

Musical
In May 2013, a musical adaptation of the comic strip made its debut at the MTC Adventure Theater in Maryland. The production story centers on Nate, who tries to enter the Battle of the Bands competition at his school but should try to avoid containment again, as too many people will disqualify his band from the competition. Critical reception for the musical was positive.
