Natalie Davis (aka " Miniature Serial Killer ") is a fictitious character in the criminal drama CBS CSI: Crime Scene Investigation , described by Jessica Collins.

Miniature Killer introduced in the seventh season premiere; after a season-long bow, he was identified as Natalie Davis in the final. He made a one-off appearance back in the ninth season.

Video The Miniature Killer

Modus operandi

The key sign of Mini Killer's crime is a meticulous scale model built to represent every scene. The models were left at the murder site or sent to someone involved in the settlement of the case. Every detail is accurate, and even uses the victim's blood instead of paint. Each model also contains a hidden image of a bloody doll and stuff that somehow relates to bleach. His victims were killed in very different ways, including beatings, poisoning, and electric shock. Many of his victims used services as cleaning ladies, and some also had connections with his adoptive father.

Concepts and creations

The Miniature Killer modus operandi is inspired by the Unexplainable Study of Unexplainable Death, a series of intricate scenes of crime scene actually used to help train the Baltimore Murder Investigation unit. The dollhouse is explored in detail in the documentary of Of Dolls and Murder .

Natalie Davis is the eldest daughter of Christopher Davis, a talented ventriloquist who calls herself "The Great Rainone". Natalie has a younger sister named Chloe. Natalie was jealous of the attention Chloe received from their father, but the two sisters got along pretty well until their mother died. Soon after, in 1981, Natalie's jealousy pushed her over the edge, and she pushed Chloe out of the tree house to her death. This was the first of a series of murders, and the only one he did not remake in miniature. When Natalie looked down from the tree house in Chloe lay dead, the sight looked like a miniature, and Natalie became obsessed with creating miniature casualties and subsequent criminal scenes. He will then witness his father cleanse Chloe's blood with bleach, and bleach will be a psychotic trigger for his murder.

Feeling ruined by Chloe's loss, Davis finally can not handle care for Natalie, and puts her up for adoption. After going through a series of orphanages, Natalie was finally taken permanently by Ernie Dell. Dell and Natalie had a strong bond, and he became the first person he loved so much. Dell is a railway model fan who unwittingly helped him build his first three miniatures. When Dell discovered what the miniature used, he forgave him and rationalized his actions. To protect him, Dell confessed falsely as Miniature Killer, and committed suicide on live video directly sent to Gil Grissom. Natalie was devastated by Dell's death and asked Grissom to be responsible. When he discovers his relationship with Sara Sidle, he decides to take revenge by kidnapping him.

Known victim

Chloe Davis

Natalie's sister (age 4), was pushed to her death from the tree house.

Izzy Delancy

Grissom and his team found a washed rock star in his kitchen in an episode Built to Kill, Part 2 . His body lay on the chair and leaned over the table. They decided that the cause of death was a single blow sent to the back of the head with a rolling pin. The first miniature found near. It was the perfect kitchen diorama, and even included things in the trash and the placement of Delancy's blood. In the model they also found bloody doll pictures, hidden behind mini-picture frames, and bleach containers in miniature trash.

Trigger: On August 25, 2006, Izzy Delancy left a voicemail on Ernie's answering machine, also used by Natalie. Delancy reminded him to use bleach to remove stains from his sweat. Most likely this is the trigger that led to Delancy's murder.

Connection: Izzy Delancy sends PSA for cruelty to the chicken plant where Ernie Dell (Natalie's adoptive father), and Raymundo Suarez (third victim of Natalie miniature), work. Natalie works as a cleanser for Izzy Delancy.

Penny Garden

In "Post Mortem", an old woman named Penny Garden was found dead, lying in the window of her living room. It was revealed that he was dying of cancer, and heavy drugs. The drug was not found on the scene, leading the Grissom team to assume that drug stealing is a murder motive. This led to the suspicion that penny was reformed-the addict of the nephew was the murderer. However, this theory was set aside when the niece brought a miniature model depicting the scene of the murder, which seemed to be delivered as soon as CSI left the scene.

After Penny's autopsy revealed that he had ingested a lethal fluid nicotine, Grissom and his team noted that there was a glue on Penny's back model, and in the chair he was sitting on. This led them to believe that the assassin had assumed that Penny would die in her seat from her toxic cherry brandy, not expecting her to have a seizure. When Penny stood up with cruelty, the killer revealed herself, who had been hiding behind Penny, and threw Penny to the window. With a miniature that has been made to describe Penny who died in his chair, the killer shows signs of obsessive habits, must improve the model by rearranging to match the actual scene of death before it can be seen by others. This explains why the miniature was not in place of death as it first happened. The camera from the Penny Garden neighborhood shows Ernie Dell (Natalie's foster father) bringing a miniature wearing a jacket with a train symbol on the back.

When examining the model further, Grissom found the second picture of the bloodstained doll, again hidden. Then in series, the model connects to the other with clues that involve bleach; bleach coupons found on the miniature floor.

Triggers: On October 18, 2006, Penny Garden left a voicemail on the killer answering machine. In the message, Garden told her killer that she fired her for not bleaching grout as she ordered. This command is most likely the trigger that led to the Garden killing. In the background, one can hear the song ("Lollipop Lollipop" By The Chordettes) Penny listens before she dies, and her voice pours drinks.

Connection: Penny Garden is a member of the same mini-train club as Ernie Dell, and is also connected to Lionel Dell (son of biologist Ernie Dell) through his neighbor, who sells Penny Garden medicines for Lionel cash for Penny.

Raymundo Suarez

In Locium Motives, Grissom and his team were taken to the murder scene of a janitor, found to be lying the first face in a shallow water basin at a chicken processing factory. The basin, which the CSI studied, is a stun bath, used to paralyze the chickens before killing them by passing an electric current through the water. When Raymundo landed in the water, he became paralyzed long enough to drown.

A miniature stun room was found nearby, depicting Raymundo in the position of his death, lying with his first face in the bathroom. After researching the chicken factory, the team learned that Izzy Delancy, mentioned above, had protested the Public Service Announcement of the factory as part of his 'new leaf' action. When examining the model further, Grissom found the third picture of the bloodstained doll, again hidden. After cross-referencing the workers at the factory, PSA, and murder, Grissom's team found the main suspect: Ernie Dell.

The team soon learned that he was part of the same train club as Penny Garden, which connected him with the three murders. As they ransacked his home, they found an elaborate workshop to create miniature models, including the railway station, which depicts horrific scenes of death and destruction. When the SWAT team broke into Ernie's house, Grissom received a live webcam feed from Ernie himself. Ernie confessed to murder before shooting himself in the head.

Later in the series, in the episode of Lab Rats, the model is connected with another by the instructions that involve bleach; one barrel of bleach found near stun bath.

Triggers: Natalie states, when asked if Raymundo touched her, that she was there, but most likely caused by the whitening odor she said was in her hands.

Connections: Raymundo works at Mannleigh Chickens, the factory where Ernie Dell works.

Kamen/Barbara Tallman Officer

Monster in the Box starts with Grissom coming back from four weeks off. When he opened the packet sent to his office, he was surprised to find another miniature. Calling the team immediately, he realized from the pre-dated newspaper in the model that the murder had not happened. On the cover of a mini newspaper there is a fourth picture of the bloody doll. In miniature, a Caucasian woman is found lying on her back on the couch, with a pillow. On the pillow of his make-up traces, lead CSI to assume that he will be stuck to death with it.

After a great hunt for buildings with similar features featured on the model, they found one suitable apartment building. Rushing to the penthouse, they arrived in time to surprise Barbara Tallman, a retired psychotherapist who was about to lie down for her afternoon nap, along with her cat. Warning of his impending death, the team traded Tallman with bait, an officer named Kamen.

Waiting and watching, the team hopes to catch the killer, whom they think will enter the room to strangle Kamen. When no one except Barbara's brother arrived, they decided to cancel the reconnaissance. As they went to wake Kamen, they cringed to find him dead. An autopsy from Barbara's second miniature as well as Officer Kamen later revealed that the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. Checking the suite and miniature, Grissom and his team found a mechanism in Barbara's chimney, time in advance to drop a can of charcoal powder into the fire and close the chimney. The smoke from the burning fire and charcoal would then produce enough carbon monoxide to poison and strangle anyone in the room. The murder proved that Ernie Dell was not really a Miniature Murderer, but had blamed (and bullets) for others.

Looking from the model, Grissom found three more pictures of the bloody doll, each one of the previous crimes. Putting them under ultraviolet light, Grissom finds a message written on it: "YOU WRONG".

Tallman was found dead in the same position the next morning, after refusing to have the guard spend the night. Her brother held a press conference, bringing knowledge about Miniature Killers to the public. CSI later found her DNA from the tears in her sister's body, revealing that she was a part of assisted suicide. Tallman had tried framing the Miniature Killer for suicide, an opportunity to stop Parkinson's disease diagnosed by Tallman.

Trigger: It is possible that bleach used in water in flower vases inside an apartment might be triggering, but that is not confirmed.

Connection: Tallman used to do volunteer work at the halfway house where Lionel Dell once lived.

Sara Sidle (survivor)

At the end of the seventh season, "Living Doll", Natalie Davis was finally named Miniature Killer. The CSI team were able to narrow their suspects to him, and gather his background before catching him, but not before he kidnapped Sara Sidle.

Natalie started her story to capture Sara long before it actually happened. He witnesses at the scene of a car accident, where he sees Grissom gently stroking Sara's arm; that's when he decided to take revenge on Grissom for the death of Ernie Dell. He managed to buy a damaged car, and took it to the desert. He then began to create a miniature depicting Sara who was trapped under a car. Model Sara shows him with his arm sticking out from under the car, still moving (there is a motor attached to the arm that he bought just a few days before the show).

When done, Natalie picks up the miniature and puts it in Grissom's office; a simple achievement because he has worked in the CSI office as a janitor. As soon as the miniature was placed, she waited for Sara in the parking garage. When Sara arrives in her car, Natalie pushes her, ties her up, and puts her in the trunk of her car before leaving the parking structure.

Sara wakes up and escapes her bond before slipping into the backseat after removing the pillow. He attacked Natalie as she drove, smashing Natalie's head through the driver's side window before jumping out of the slowed car. Winding, Sara could not move in time to escape from Natalie, who stopped in the car, sedated Sara, and tied her up again.

In the season of eight episodes of the premiere of "Dead Doll" (Part two to the seventh season finale of "Living Doll"), Sara wakes up to find her arm pinned under a red Mustang. Natalie left Sara to die when a severe rain storm approached, with a warning of flash floods in the area. As the water rose, Sara managed to escape by using the rearview mirror, and was left with the task of surviving in the middle of the desert after a storm.

Trigger : He targets Sara Sidle because he blames Gil Grissom for taking his adoptive father, Ernie Dell, from him, the man he loves most. Natalie decided to do the same for Grissom.

Connection : Natalie provides cleaning services at CSI's office for a month before committing his crime, he is employed by a contracting company for all city buildings in the Las Vegas strip area.

Previous suspect

Sven Delancy

The first person suspected as Miniature Killer is Sven Delancy, son of Izzy Delancy by his first wife. Sven has been on therapy twice a week since he was six years old because of a rough life that lives between two households with a father he does not know and a "mother of cokeheads" as Izzy's current wife says. He first attracted suspicion after his mother revealed he had an interest in architecture and that he could draw almost perfect 3-D rendering from skyscrapers.

During the interrogation, it was suggested that Sven had channeled his anger to his father through a miniature found at the scene. When shown a miniature picture, the boy fainted when he saw the original blood in a miniature. To ensure that Sven does not pretend to be pushed back because he sees blood, a test is performed on him, which involves artificially increasing the flow of adrenaline through his system to simulate his blood. Sven fainted once more, proving his innocence. The criminal laboratory has no clue anymore for some time afterwards.

Ernie Dell

Ernest Edward "Ernie" Dell became the main suspect after he was linked with the first three murders through job records and club membership. After investigating Ernie's house, many models were found, making it clearer that he could become a Miniature Murderer. Ernie was arrested but released because there was not enough evidence to accuse him. After being interrogated by CSI, Ernie left a message on the killer's answering machine, telling him that he saw his model, and knew that he was a murderer before declaring that he was heading to speak. After Ernie committed suicide, CSI's team found that he only covered for others.

Lionel Dell/Mitchell Douglas Lionel Dell/Mitchell Douglas

Searching through the old video, the team learns that Ernie has a son who changed his name from Lionel Dell to Mitchell Douglas. CSI assumes that he can be a killer. However, they soon learn that Ernie's son hates his father, and that Ernie seems to love her adoptive children more. After learning the coaching of his children, CSI learned from a video recording that Ernie had at least thirteen foster children, one of which could be a Miniature Murderer. CSI managed to slowly narrow down the list after tracking many of Dell's foster children, some of whom have been dead for years. After the epithelium was found on the fingerprint of one miniature doll made by Miniature Killer, the CSI team learned that the killer was female, narrowing the children's list even further.

Grissom.27s_involvement "> Grissom Involvement

Of all the CSI, Gil Grissom is most involved with the case. Grissom keeps each miniature locked in his office for observation. Grissom also witnessed the suicide of Ernie Dell, and was one of the first to announce his case was closed. He was surprised when the next miniature was sent directly to him. In the episode "Lab Rats," Hodges told another lab technician that he heard Grissom could not sleep. One of the technicians, Wendy Simms, asked Sara about this, and Sara's response was, "How do I know?" (In this episode is Hodges who is aware of the bleach connection between the four victims). At the end of "Leapin Lizard", "Grissom looks to assemble his own miniature, which seems to be his own. When asked by Catherine why she made it in "The Good, The Bad, and the Dominatrix," she replied that it was to keep her hands busy. It was later revealed that he made it connect to a thriving online community with miniatures, where he could ask questions about specially crafted items used in killer miniatures.

When Miniature Killer was found to be Natalie Davis, Grissom was the first to talk to her in the interrogation room after Brass suggested dripping bleach on herself until she spoke. Grissom enters alone, and tries to get her to say where Sara is praising her work and asks what she thinks of her miniature. When Sara's name was raised following her abduction, Natalie became so angry that she experienced hallucinations slitting Grissom's throat with a razor while she completely fell into an unresponsive state where she sang "I Got Got". a Pain in My Sawdust "to himself, leaving Sara's unknown existence.

After knowing from the weather forecast that three severe rain storms occurred in Las Vegas, Grissom simulated the effects of the resulting banjir bandang at Sara's location by pouring water into miniature scenes. The water quickly pooled over the Sara doll, and his arm stopped moving. After investigating many of the clues left behind, Grissom and the team found the car, only to find it buried deep in the sand from the storm. Sara's vest is found buried, but she has escaped from the rubble. The team then scours the desert to find it. Nick was the first to find Sara, who fainted from the heat. Though initially unresponsive, Sara regained consciousness as MEDEVAC came out, looking at Grissom's relief.

Natalie appeared in the 9th episode of the season, "Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda". Grissom attended the hearing, where it was decided that he would be transferred to another prison, and was no longer receiving therapy, because it was decided that therapeutic treatment had been successful. He declares to Grissom the belief that he has changed and that he feels sorry for his actions, and that "those who do bad things should be punished." After he's taken out, Grissom checks the loose floor tiles in his cell, lifts them to find a miniature Natalie hanging from under his neck, so he still plans to hang himself, as per his original plan.

He was also shown to work with bleach, as a way to conquer his fears and the psychotic impulse he had in him.

Trivia

  • The puppet image hidden in every diorama is a puppet representation that his father, the famous ventriloquist, was made in the picture of Natalie's sister, who had died.
  • The main part of the miniature Killer story arc is its own miniature TKP. Created by designer Rob Sissman, each scene is actually three separate creations. Sissman designed a sized set and then made two miniature replicas. The proposals used by the actors in the event were the half-inch model of the original device. High-definition cameras are used to capture close-ups of the third model, one inch in size. It took Sissman time to duplicate details for every scene and he said that "the season was tiring."
  • The first letter of every spell-killer method of spell, which is a killer trigger:

    • (L) iquid Nicotine toxicity
    • (E) indentation
    • (A) sphyxiation
