Commerce is a city located southeast of Los Angeles County, California, USA. The population is 12,823 at the 2010 census, up from 12,568 in the 2000 census. It borders Vernon to the west, Los Angeles to the northwest, East Los Angeles to the north, Montebello to the east, Downey and Bell Gardens to the south, and Maywood to the southwest. The Los Angeles River forms part of the southwest border, and Rio Hondo separates it from Downey. The trade is served by Long Beach and Santa Ana freeways, as well as the Metrolink commuter rail service at the trading station. In the 19th century, this area was part of Rancho Maria Antonio from Antonio Maria Lugo. His conversion to the industrial estate began in 1887, when Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway built their main route through the area.
