Ivo Karlovi? ( Croatian pronunciation: Ã, [?: o kÃÆ' Â ¢: rlo?] 28 February 1979, Zagreb) is a professional Croatian tennis player. He has won eight single ATP titles between 2007 and 2016. Karlovi's height? 211 cm (6 ft 11 in) makes it one of the highest professional tennis players in history.

He is a serve-and-volleyer and officially holds the record of fastest recorded services in professional tennis, measured at 251 km/h (156 mph), before being surpassed by Samuel Groth in 2012.

He is considered the best server on the tour, holding an all-time record for ace career with 12,741 - and is one of only the fourth player in history that surpassed 10,000 aces. His altitude allows him to serve with high speed and accuracy.

Karlovi? is the oldest player in the top 100 by ATP (as of July 2017). He has a 2-1 record against former world number one Novak Djokovic.

Karlovi? debuted for Croatia's Davis Cup team in 2000 against Ireland, where he won the dead rubber. Karlovi? appeared in the starting line-up for the first time in 2002 against Argentina in Buenos Aires, but he lost to Juan Ignacio Chela in the second rubber and to GastÃÆ'³n Gaudio in his fifth and decisive rubber. He has set a career record of 4-2 (2-2 in singles) in three ties since 2000.

Karlovi? caused a stunning upset at Wimbledon when he defeated defending champion Lleyton Hewitt in his first match at the Grand Slam tournament. In 2015, Karlovi? remains the only player in Open tennis history, and only second player after Charlie Pasarell, to beat the men's singles champion Wimbledon in the first round. He completed 2003 in the top 100 and as Croatia No. 3, behind Ivan Ljubi? and Mario An? me? He also averages ATP-best of 17.6 aces per game. He continued his success during the 2004 season, winning in Calabasas, California. He reached the sixteenth round in several tournaments, including Wimbledon.

2005: First ATP final

In 2005, Karlovi? reached his first ATP final at the Queen's Club Championships, defeating Lleyton Hewitt and Thomas Johansson along the way. In the final he lost to Andy Roddick. There is no service break in the match. After that, Roddick said, Karlovi's service is "probably the biggest weapon in tennis... You do not really feel it unless you're on the other side. It's not fun at certain times."

At the 2005 US Open, Karlovi? losing to last runner-up Andre Agassi in three tiebreaks. On October 19, 2005, he eventually defeated Roddick at the Madrid Masters show. In November 2005, he was a member of the Croatian team that won the Davis Cup. He did not play in the final, but played in the dead rubber semifinal.

2006: Breaking into the top 50

2007: The first ATP title & amp; breaking the top 30

Karlovi? and Roger Federer was the only player to win titles on three different surfaces during the 2007 season.

At the age of 28, he won his first ATP singles title at the US Men's Clay Men's Championship in Houston, Texas, beating Mariano Zabaleta in the final. On 29 May 2007 at the French Open, he defeated eighth seed James Blake in the first round. In the next round he lost to Jonas BjÃÆ'¶rkman in five sets.

On 23 June 2007, he won his second title of the year and his career in Nottingham, the last grass tune-up before Wimbledon, defeated seventh seed Stanislas Wawrinka, Gilles Simon, Juan MartÃÆ'n del Potro, second seed Dmitry Tursunov (match played) on deep hard court room due to heavy rain), and Arnaud ClÃÆ'Â © ment. At the 2008 Australian Open, Karlovi? entering the men's doubles tournament with 6Ã,® 9 in. (2.06Ã,Â) John Isner, making them the highest double pair in history. Despite losing in the first round, Karlovi? said "That's very fun, we'll win together next time."

Karlovi? beating world number one Roger Federer in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters on July 31, 2008. This was his first win in seven games against Federer. It is this loss that causes Federer to lose No. 1. 1 for Rafael Nadal. Karlovi? then advance to the semi-finals. where he lost to eventual champion Andy Murray. This is the best result of his career in a top level tournament.

In the US Open, Karlovi? fell into Sam Querrey in straight sets.

At Madrid Masters 2008, he shocked World No. 3 Novak Djokovic in two sets of tie-breakers serving 20 aces to seal victory in 1 hour and 42 minutes. However, he lost in the quarterfinals with Frenchman Gilles Simon, who dominated the tiebreak. He was also thrown over his head three times.

2009: First Grand Slam Quarterfinals

At Wimbledon 2009, he backed through the first two rounds, defeating LukÃÆ'¡? Lacko and Steve Darcis. In the next two rounds he needed only one break of serve in the third set to beat ninth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and seventh seed Fernando Verdasco, advanced to face Roger Federer in his first quarter-final at Grand Slam. The match was a relatively unilateral affair, with Federer winning in straight sets and going on to win the tournament.

In the 2009 Davis Cup semi-final, Karlovi? defeated by Radek? t? pÃÆ'¡nek, despite achieving a record 78 aces (a record has been taken by John Isner of America). The match was one of the longest in Davis Cup history, lasting 5 hours 59 minutes. There are only three service breaks in this match.

Karlovi? also won the first five sets in the Davis Cup quarterfinals against the United States, where he came from behind to beat James Blake from two sets down.

2010: injury and absence

Karlovi? meet? t? pÃÆ'¡nek again at the 2010 Australian Open, in another five-set marathon. This time, the 13th seed? T? PÃÆ'¡nek lose. In all five matches set Karlovi? has played, this is only his second victory. He went on to achieve the best fourth round of his career there, after defeating? T? PÃÆ'¡nek, Julien Benneteau (in four sets), and Ivan Ljubi? I? (also in four sets). Having given a solid performance, he was knocked out by second seed and defending champion Rafael Nadal in the round.

As second seed at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championship 2010, he made a runner-up effort, losing to the first ATP finalist Ernests Gulbis.

In the 2010 Davis Cup, where Croatia held their first round match against Ecuador, Karlovi? beat NicolÃÆ'¡s Lapentti in five sets. This is his fifth third victory, having won the top five sets? T? PÃÆ'¡nek at the Australian Open. The five-set record then stands at 3-12.

Karlovi? was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon due to a foot injury.

2011-13: Ranking & amp; fifth ATP title

February 2011 look at Karlovi? for a while out of the top 200. Karlovi? beat Dudi Sela in the first round of Wimbledon in straight sets, but was knocked out in the second round by Andy Murray. Karlovi? controversially accused Wimbledon of being biased, as he was pulled for an error of about 11 feet.

In 2013, Karlovi? suffered from viral meningitis, which was not immediately diagnosed. He was unconscious for some time, and when he woke up, he did not know his name or what year it was. After a long recovery, he could play again in Newport in July, where he made it to the quarterfinals, before being defeated by John Isner in one of their typical ace-fests.

In Bogota, also in July, he won his fifth ATP title, having beaten Alejandro Falla in the final. He did not qualify for the Rogers Cup or Cincinnati.

At the US Open, he qualified and entered the second half by beating James Blake in the last singles match of his career in five sets. In the second half, he meets with Stanislas Wawrinka, whom he lost in straight sets.

2014: Four rounds of ATP & amp; back to top 30

In February, Karlovi? reached the final of the US National Indoor Tennis Championships, losing to Kei Nishikori. In May, he reached the DÃÆ'¼sseldorf Open final, losing to Philipp Kohlschreiber. In July, he reached the final of the Tennis Championships Hall of Fame, losing an epic match to Lleyton Hewitt. A solid week of tennis made him return to the final round, this time at Claro Open Colombia, losing to Bernard Tomic in three tight sets. He avenged that loss the following month at the Rogers Cup in three other tight setter.

2015: Sixth ATP title & amp; back to top 20

Karlovi? won his sixth title, beating Donald Young at the Delray Beach Open. Ivo also won Topshelf Open in double with? Ukasz Kubot. He reached the final of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, which he lost to Rajeev Ram in three sets.

2016: Injury and seventh, Eighth Degree

Karlovi? suffered a knee injury and missed two months of play. He reached the final of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships for the third time against Gilles MÃÆ'¼ller, which he won in three tiebreaks. At the age of 37 and 5 months, he became the oldest player to win an ATP title since 1979. He reached the ATP World Tour 500 series at the Washington Open (tennis), which he lost to GaÃÆ'§Â Monfils. He then won the Los Cabos Open, defeating Feliciano LÃÆ'³pez in straight sets and returning to the top 20 again in 37 years and 6 months.

2017: 75 Aces in Australian Open

Karlovi? started the Australian Open by beating Horacio Zeballos in a 5-hour, 15-minute, longest second-leg match in the Open Era tournament (just behind Djokovic vs Nadal in 2012). He set an Australian Open record, hitting 75 aces.

Age 38, Karlovi? set the finals of the oldest ATP Tour tournament against Gilles Muller, 34, in 41 years at the Ricoh Open 2017.

2018: Define ages

In 2018 the Australian Open, Karlovi? advance to Round 32, lose to Andreas Seppi, 3-6, 6-7 (4-7) , 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-5) , 7-9.

In 2018 Ecuador opens in Quito, Karlovi? made it to round 16, losing to 18-year-old Corentin Moutet, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3) , 6-7 (6-8) .

Furthermore, he reached the quarter-finals at the New York Open (tennis) which lost to Sam Querrey, who was seeded in second place.

After a string of tight first-round losses at the Delray Beach Open, Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open (tennis), the recently ended Son Clay Court Championships in Houston see Karlovi? reaching the semi-finals with victories over Daniel Taro of Japan, Denis Kudla and fourth seed Nick Kyrgios. In the semi-final, he lost to last runner-up Tennys Sandgren in two close sets, both ending in a tie-break.

Davis Cup

Karlovi? has been absent from some of Croatia's previous Davis Cup campaigns due to his dispute with the Croatian Tennis Association. He is increasingly tense with the Croatian Tennis Association and the Croatian Olympic Committee with his last-minute withdrawal from the Olympic tournament in Beijing, communicated via SMS messages.

He played against Japan in the first round in 2012 in Japan with victories over Kei Nishikori and Go Soeda in single and double wins with Dodig.

In 2016, Ivo received an invitation to the 2016 Davis Cup Final against Argentina. He played the second game, lost against Juan MartÃÆ'n del Potro, and had to play the final decisive game, again beaten against Federico Delbonis

On September 18th, 2009, Karlovi? hit 78 aces (77 aces on 1st serve) in a Davis Cup tie against Radek? t? pÃÆ'¡nek, breaking the previous record of 51 (against Daniele Bracciali at the 2005 Wimbledon Championship) and 55 (against Lleyton Hewitt at the French Open 2009). Only once in his ATP career he failed to hit ace during the game, which was at Monte Carlo Masters 2008 against France's GaÃÆ'§Â Monfils. His record of ace in a single game was broken by John Isner and Nicolas Mahut in the longest match in tennis history in the first round of the 2010 Wimbledon Championship, where Isner hit 113 aces and Mahut hit 103.

In 2007 Karlovi? becoming the fourth player to serve 1,000 aces in a single season. He finished the year with 1,318 aces, the second all time behind Goran Ivani? Evi ?, who hit 1,477 in 1996. In 2015 he became the third player (after Goran Ivani? Evi? And Andy Roddick) to serve 9,000 career aces, and the second reached about 10,000 aces.

Karlovi's fastest official service was 156 miles per hour (251 km/h), which he hit when he lost five sets in Davis Cup third round rubber with Ivan Dodig against Christopher Kas and Philipp Petzschner of Germany. It was ATP's official record at the time. The previous record was 153 miles per hour (246 km/h) in a victory over Arnaud ClÃÆ'Â © ment in the Nottingham final in 2007. This was the first fastest recorded record, after Andy Roddick 155 miles per hour (249 km/h).
He also hit a 144 mile per hour (232Ã.km/jam) second serve against Paul Capdeville in the Legg Mason Tennis Classic quarter-finals of 2007 on 3 August, which was the second fastest service on record.

Karlovic's record of 156 mph service was broken by Samuel Groth at the ATP Challenger 2012 in Busan, but still a record for ATP events until John Isner broke the record in 2016.

On June 19, 2015 Karlovi? breaking the record for most of the ace in a three-set ATP Tour set during the 2015 Gerry Weber Open quarter-finals. He served 45 aces in a 7-5, 6-7 (8-10) victory , 6-3 over TomÃÆ'¡? Berdych.

Karlovi? holds the record for most ace in tennis history after surpassing Goran Ivani? evi? in October 2015. In January 2018, he has hit 12,428 aces in 633 matches.
