Eyedrum Art & amp; Music Gallery is an art space and non-profit place in Atlanta, Georgia, founded by American painter Woody Cornwell (1969-2016), and focuses on contemporary art and experimental music ranging from contemporary chamber music and sound sculptures to music sound drones and rock art. As of January 1, 2011, the organization is located in the Old Ward of the Fourth district, and has three art galleries and one room for music and shows. It hosts about 180 annual events. Founded in 1998, Eyedrum is one of Atlanta's oldest art and show rooms run by volunteers.
Eyedrum often organizes events in collaboration with community partners, including annual Listening Machines events with Georgia Institute of Technology, Henry W. Grady's High School art department and the Love Movie series. In addition to exhibitions and art performances, this place also hosts films, lectures, and other related activities. It hosts a monthly improvised night focusing on experimental exploration in music and sound. In the past, music groups from organizations organized the Table of the Elements Festival and the Rogue Independent Music Festival. Live performances of various acts such as Ken Lockie, Hubcap City, Bill Taft, and Tunnels were recorded on Eyedrum and later released as a live album.
Eyedrum Art & amp; The Music Gallery is the parent organization of the art journal Eyedrum Periodic . Published quarterly and online, the magazine offers literary works (poetry, fiction, and essays), visual arts, and works in sound and multimedia according to a series of themes. Messengers can interpret these themes literally and figuratively. Themes for the first year of publication include "Im/Permanence," "Monsters," In the Streets, "and" Drones. "The journal is administered by Colleen M. Payton Founding Editor (aka Miriam C. Jacobs), while each issue is managed individually, as are the gallery curation and Eyedrum show, by the rotating Editor-in-Chief Lead editor for the first year, along with Payton , including Hester L. Furey and Bill Taft. The magazine publishes an annual print edition, Best of Eyedrum Periodically .
The structure of Eyedrum is unique because it is the organization of all volunteers without paid staff. Board of directors is a working council, with members of monthly meetings and handling almost every aspect of running the space, including programming, promotion, accounting, fundraising, and cleaning tasks.
Eyedrum hosts satellite shows ("Eyedrum Elsewhere" events) in various places around Atlanta, including 364 Nelson Street SW, Atlanta, GA 30313 at Castleberry Hill, The Goat Farm, Beep Beep Gallery and The Music Room at Pizzeria Vesuvius. Eyedrum was once at C4's FUSE Arts Center, but moved to a new gallery at 88 Forsyth Street on July 1, 2014.
