Club La Vela is a nightclub owned by Patrick and Thorsten Pfeffer, and is located in the resort community of Panama City Beach, Florida. It's called the biggest nightclub in the United States. Although open throughout most of the year, the club has gained most of its fame and hatred during the spring break weeks when thousands of students gathered at the club.

History

Built in 1984 as La Vela Beach Club and Concert Hall, it was designed by Walton Chancey and Timothy Packard Architects. Originally owned by Alois Pfeffer and George Christo and after the early season in the fall of 1984 Mr. Pfeffer became the sole owner in early 1985 and embarked on an expansion that would eventually make LaVela Beach Club and Concert Hall, Club LaVela and Largest Night Club World. From the sinking of genuine support in the summer of 1984 LaVela (as it was first known) was built in 54 days culminating in the Great Opening on Labor Day 1984 and the opening night concert by John Prine. It should be noted that the building is Mr. Chancey from the School of Architecture at Auburn University. The original management team is led by Willian Bass C.P.A., Gordon Hundley (deceased), Jimmy Christo Jr., and Clifford A. Becker. Alois Pfeffer himself an Engineer, Architects and International Entrepreneurs plays an important role in advising the architect team of Chancey & amp; Packard. Originally set to cost $ 400,000 US, overtime exceeded the number on the project alone. Alois Pfeffer continues to support this project through a period of growth with money and expertise culminating in timely reelection! Genuine first-season acts include Ramsey Lewis, Gregg Allman, Robin Trower, Tom T. Hall, Prairie Pure League, Leon Redbone, The Outlaws and a host of others. The original place is much smaller than it is today, and in a pre-re-opening expansion, after a short winter hiatus in November and December 1984 an outdoor band shell was added along with an extended deck space and then through the early years. With the addition of the old population Dj John Hulsey, as director of Music, several "Live Mix Shows" began in the late 80s and through 1999

From 1997-1999, World Championship Wrestling held an annual episode of WCW Monday Nitro at the venue in March. The goal of each yearly "Spring Break-Out" episode is to get noticed with teens and young adults who are not familiar with Nitro . It was also the venue for the last episode of Nitro on March 26, 2001.

Club of the day

Currently, Club La Vela's capacity stands at 6,000 subscribers, and the club has grown into a major entertainment complex. Different dance halls serve home music fans, trance, rock and hip hop; one room also features foam blower. During summer and spring, the club also features "The Darkroom", a place for visitors under 18, and the club periodically hosts "Teenbashes", on Sundays where the club is open only for adolescents without alcohol service.

Due to its popularity during spring break, Club La Vela has been the focus of numerous media reports and events. MTV has made this club a host for several holiday seasons over the past decade. The club is known for its bikini and wet sweat contests for women and "hard body" contests for men. Club La Vela has also been featured by E! and is the home party venue for "Girls Next Door" and Playboy Crew, and its original show Wild On.... Cable channels and other broadcasts featuring Club La Vela include ESPN, TNT, Travel Channel, MSNBC , French channel Canal Plus and RTL II and Pro7 Germany. Dozens of retail brands have sponsored various events at the club.

The club has been the subject of many reports that have been sold and closed to pave the way for high-rise condominiums. The latest report has closed the club after spring 2005 in a hurry, but the club remains open for the day. [1]

On January 6, 2014, Pfeffer evolved into broadcasting by taking over the operations of WPCF, AM radio station in Panama City which also simulcast on the FM Translator. The station plays the Dance format billed as "Play 93.9" and will serve as a tie-in to club events and events.

Legal issues

In large part due to its size, popularity, party atmosphere and frequent media coverage, Club La Vela has been the subject of several detentions with authorities. Sometimes a problem with the Bay County sheriff has been going on for years, with little or no legal action being generated against the club itself or its owners.

That changed in June 2001, when the owner and parent company of the Sea Watch company Panama City Beach, Inc. charged by a federal jury for violating federal laws that make landlords accountable for drug use from their customers. The allegations are the end result of a five-year investigation of Club La Vela.

In the October 2001 trial, prosecutors showed Joomshops a jury, chewing gum and a light stick seized in the attack. The items are presented as evidence of drug use, although there is no actual evidence of the drug. After more than an hour of consideration, the jury found that the defendants were innocent of all charges. [2] The federal grand jury is hearing all the evidence of cleaning up the club and its owners from all charges and the club has hired former veteran law enforcement to run their security.
