Uncle Sam Cereal is a breakfast ready-to-eat cereal, first introduced in 1908 by US Mills of Omaha, Nebraska. The company moved to Needham, Massachusetts around the 1970s. Attune Foods of San Francisco earned Uncle Sam Cereal in 2009.

In 1908, the company founder, Lafayette Coltrin of Omaha, was instructed by his personal physician to add flaxseed to his diet. Coltrin savored the flaxseed flavor that was roasted over the flakes of wheat he had eaten during breakfast, he decided to market the combination. Given his likeness to Uncle Sam, Coltrin named his new cereal after a mythical patriotic character. The top silhouette of "Uncle Sam" on the side of the box is actually Coltrin's, or so the story goes.

Uncle Sam The original cereal, since 1908 consisted of roasted whole wheat grains that were steamed, rolled, and baked into shale. The whole linseed is then mixed with flakes. This fiber-rich and ready-to-eat cereal has a low glycemic index and has a very high amount of omega-3 per serving for flaxseed. It is marketed as a "natural laxative" due to the presence of flax seed, although the clinical support for this statement is lacking.

Due to its nutritional profile, Uncle Sam Cereal has been recommended by some renowned dietitians and nutritionists, as well as in best-selling diets such as Rip Esselstyn's The Engine 2 Diet , Belly Fat Cure, Sugar Busters and South Beach Diet.

Over the years, Uncle Sam also features instant oatmeal, and cereal bars that are no longer available. In 2010, Uncle Sam's cereal introduced three new flavors: Strawberry, Honey Almond, and Multi-Grain.
