A seaside resort is a resort town or resort hotel, located on the beach. Sometimes it is also an officially accredited title, which is only given to a city when its requirements are met (such as the title of Seebad in Germany).

Where the beach is the main focus for tourists, it can be called as beach resort .

Histori

In Roman times, the city of Baiae, by the Sea of Tirenia in Italy, was a resort for those who were prosperous enough. Mersea Island, in Essex, England is a beach destination for the wealthy Romans who live in Colchester.

The development of the beach as a popular recreation place from the mid-19th century was the first manifestation of what is now a global tourism industry. The first seaside resort opened in the 18th century for the aristocracy, which began to frequent the beaches as well as the fashionable and fashionable cities, for recreation and health. One of the earliest coastal resorts was Scarborough in Yorkshire during the 1720s; it is a popular spa city since the flow of acidic water is found flowing from one of the cliffs to the south of the city in the 17th century. The first rolling shower machine was introduced in 1735.

In 1793, Heiligendamm in Mecklenburg, Germany was established as the first beach resort on the continent of Europe, which succeeded in attracting the European aristocracy into the Baltic Sea.

The opening of the resort in Brighton and its reception of the royal patronage of King George IV extend the beach as a resort for health and pleasure to a much larger London market, and the beach becomes the center for high-end fun and carelessness. This trend is praised and elevated artistically by the new romantic ideal of a beautiful landscape; The unfinished Jane Austen novel Sanditon is an example. Later, Ratu Victoria's old patronage of the Isle of Wight and Ramsgate in Kent ensured that beachfront residences were considered a very fashionable property for those rich enough to buy more than one house.

Seaside resort for working class people

The extension of this form of recreation to the middle class and the working class began with the development of trains in the 1840s, offering cheap and affordable rates to the thriving resort towns. In particular, completion of the branch path to Blackpool's small seaside town of Poulton caused a sustained economic and demographic boom. The sudden influx of visitors arriving by trains provides motivation for entrepreneurs to build accommodation and create new attractions, leading to more visitors and a rapid growth cycle throughout the 1850s and 1860s.

The growth was intensified by the practice among the Lancashire cotton owners closing the plant for a week each year for service and machine repairs. This is known as waking week. Each municipal plant will be closed for a different week, allowing Blackpool to manage a steady stream of stable and reliable visitors over a long period in the summer. Prominent features of the resort are the promenade and the pleasure pier, where various eclectic shows compete for the attention of the people. In 1863, the North Pier at Blackpool finished, quickly becoming the center of attraction for the elite visitors. Central Pier was completed in 1868, with a large open-air theater and dance floor.

Many popular beach resorts are equipped with bath machines because even the all-covered swimsuit period is considered rude.

By the end of the century, the British coastline has over 100 large resort towns, some with populations exceeding 50,000.

Worldwide expansion

The development of a seaside resort abroad is stimulated by the well-developed British love of the beach. The French Riviera with the Mediterranean has become a popular destination for the upper class of England in the late 18th century. In 1864, the first train line to Nice was completed, making the Riviera accessible to visitors from all over Europe. In 1874, the inhabitants of the foreign pockets of Nice, who were predominantly British, numbered 25,000. Coastlines became famous for attracting European royalty, including Queen Victoria and King Edward VII.

In the United States, early seaside resorts in the late 1800s served the wealthy classes and urban entrepreneurs. Cape May, New Jersey became one of the first beach resorts in the United States, when regular steam traffic on the Delaware River began after the War of 1812. Initial visitors to Cape May included Henry Clay in 1847, and Abraham Lincoln in 1849. By 1880 , Henry Flagler extended several rail lines to the south on the Atlantic coastline of the United States, attracting upscale families north to south to subtropical Florida. The Florida East Coast Railway takes tourists north to St. Augustine in greater numbers, and in 1887 Flagler began construction of two large ornate hotels in St. Augustine, 540 rooms of Ponce de Leon Hotel and Hotel Alcazar, and purchased the Casa Monica Hotel next year.

Continental European attitudes toward gambling and nudity tended to be lighter than in Britain, and British and French businessmen quickly exploited those possibilities. In 1863, Prince Monaco, Charles III, and Franç§ois Blanc, a French businessman, arranged steamers and carriages to take visitors from Nice to Monaco, where luxury hotels, parks and large casinos were built. The place was renamed Monte Carlo. Commercial marine voyages also spread to other parts of the United States and parts of the United Kingdom such as Australia, where surfing became popular in the early 20th century. In the 1970s cheap and affordable air travel was a catalyst for the real growth of the global tourism market.

The fishing and recreational activities of recreational vessels have recently become very lucrative, and traditional fishing villages are often well positioned to take advantage of this. For example, Destin, on the coast of Florida, has evolved from an artisanal fishing village into a seaside resort dedicated to tourism with a large fishing boat rental recreational fleet. The tourist attraction of the fishing villages has become so great that the Korean government aims at building 48 fishing villages for their tourist attraction.

Germany is famous for its traditional seafront resort on the Baltic Sea and the North Sea coast, primarily founded in the 19th century. In Germany they are called Seebad ("Sea Spa") or Seeheilbad , sometimes with Ostsee - or Nordsee - as prefix for each shoreline.

The most prestigious resorts can be found along the Baltic coastline, including the islands of Rugia and Usedom. They often feature a unique architectural style called resort architecture. Mecklenburg Beach and Western Pomerania alone have an overall length of 2000 km and are nicknamed the German Riviera . Heiligendamm in Mecklenburg, founded in 1793, is the oldest beach resort in Germany and the European continent.

Irlandia

The 'Irish Riviera' in South Coast of Ireland features Youghal waterfront resorts, Ardmore, Dungarvan, CÃÆ'³bh and Ballycotton, all located close to the southern coast of Ireland. Youghal has been a favorite holiday destination for over 100 years, located on the banks of the Blackwater River as it reaches the ocean. Youghal is famous for its beaches, which have, until 2008, the only city in the Republic of Ireland with two beaches endowed with E.U. Blue Flag Status. Dungarvan is a seaside market town under the mountains in the center of the southern coast of Ireland. Kinsale is often described as a city of food and cruise lovers, with a large variety of restaurants, and a large and active creative community with many art galleries and book and record stores.

Seaside resort in Eastern Ireland developed after the introduction of train travel. The Dublin and Kingstown Railway introduced day-trippers from Dublin to Kingstown (now DÃÆ'ºn Laoghaire) in South Dublin, and the coastal town became the first coastal resort in Ireland. Other towns and villages in South Dublin such as Sandycove, Dalkey and Killiney grow as seaside resorts when the rail network is expanded. Since the opening of Bray Daly Station in 1852, the coastal town of County Wicklow in Bray has become the largest beach resort on the East Coast of Ireland. The town of Greystones, five miles south of Bray, also grew as a seaside resort when the railway line was extended in 1855. Other seaside resorts include Courtown and Rosslare Strand in County Wexford.

Ulster has a number of seaside resorts, such as Portrush, located on the north coast, with two beaches and world-renowned golf courses, the Royal Portrush Golf Club. Another Ulster beach resort is Newcastle, which is located on the east coast at the foot of the Morne Mountains; Ballycastle; Portstewart; Rathmullan; Bundoran and Bangor. Bangor Marina is one of the largest in Ireland and the marina has been awarded the Blue Flag for attention on environmental issues.

The main coastal cities of western Ireland are in Clare; the largest are Lahinch and Kilkee. Lahinch is a popular surfing location.

Like the British resorts, many coastal cities in Ireland have turned to other entertainment industries. Larger resorts such as Bray or Portrush host air shows, while most resorts host summer festivals.

Inggris Raya

The United Kingdom sees the popularization of seaside resorts, and this place is more visible than in Blackpool. Blackpool caters to workers from across the UK's North industry, which pack the beach and the pedestrian area. Other northern cities (eg Bridlington, Cleethorpes, Morecambe, Scarborough, Skegness, and Southport) share in the success of this new concept, especially from trading during the early weeks. The concept spread rapidly to other British coastal cities including some on the coast of North Wales, especially Rhyl, and Llandudno, the largest resort in Wales and known as "The Queen of the Welsh Resorts", beginning as early as 1864. As the nineteenth century developed , the daytime workers of the British working class travel organized like a train journey, or with steamers, which are fitted long docks so that ships carrying trade can be anchored.

Other areas famous for its beach resorts are (and) the Firth of Clyde, outside Glasgow. The Glaswegians will take the "doon the watter" ferry from the city, along the Clyde River to the islands and peninsulas of the Firth of Clyde, such as Cowal, Bute, Arran, and Kintyre. The resort includes Rothesay, Lamlash, Whiting Bay, Dunoon, Tighnabruaich, Carrick Castle, Helensburgh, Largs, Millport and Campbeltown. In contrast to the fate of many resorts, many of the Firth of Clyde continue to enjoy prosperity thanks to their middle-class commuting towns.

Some resorts, especially the more southern ones such as Bournemouth and Brighton, are built as new or expanded cities by local landowners to attract richer travelers. Others came because of its proximity to large urban areas of the population, such as Southend-on-sea, which became increasingly popular with Londoners after the railway network was set up to allow day trips from the City. Sunlight and sea air are seen by Victorians beneficial to health, and resorts like Ventnor owe their growth to visits that are considered a treatment for chest complaints. Since the climate is generally better, the south coast has many seaside towns, the most in Sussex.

From the last quarter of the twentieth century, the popularity of British seaside resorts has declined for the same reason that it was first developed: advances in transportation. The greater the accessibility of foreign holiday destinations, through holiday packages and, more recently, low cost European airlines, giving people the freedom to vacation abroad. Despite the loyalty of tourists returning, resorts like Blackpool have struggled to keep up with favorable weather from Southern Europe and sunbelt in the United States. Now, many of the symbols of traditional British resorts (holiday camps, end-of-pier shows and postcards are delicious) are considered by some to be dull and outdated; the sky imagined to be cloudy and the beach was windy. This is not always true; for example Broadstairs in Kent has retained much of its old world charm with Punch and Judy and the donkey rides and still remains popular only an hour from the M25.

Many seaside cities have turned to other entertainment industries, and some of them have a good nightlife. Theaters and theaters often remain host to numerous pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Most of the entertainment facilities they serve locals and beaches are still popular during the summer months. Although international tourism is changing people from coastal cities across the UK, it also brings on the way abroad and as a result, many seaside towns offer foreign language schools, students who often return to vacation and sometimes to settle down.

Many people can also enjoy more holiday time and 'second holidays' and short breaks, which results in increased tourism in the coastal towns of England. Many young people and students can enjoy a short vacation and discover the city's nightlife. Many seaside towns have large shopping centers that also attract people from large areas. Day trippers still come to coastal cities but on a more local scale than during the 19th century.

Many coastal towns are also a popular retiree hotspot where older people take a break in the autumn months.

By contrast, the wealth of Brighton, which has no holiday camp or show (now) end-dock, has grown rapidly and, because of this, the resort is repeatedly maintained as a model of a modern resort. However, unlike Golden Miles from other British resorts, the sea is not Brighton's main attraction; but this is an interesting backdrop to the cosmopolitan attitude of a broad-minded hedonism. The resulting sense of uniqueness, coupled with the proximity of the city to London, has led to Brighton's restoration as a fashionable resort and residence of the rich.

Other coastal towns of England have managed to figure out their unique character. In particular, Southwold on the Suffolk coast is an active but peaceful retirement paradise with an emphasis on tranquility, serene countryside and jazz. Weymouth, Dorset offers itself as 'the gateway to the Jurassic Coast', the only natural World Heritage Site in the UK. Newquay in Cornwall offers itself as the 'surfing capital of the UK', organizing an international surfing event on its beach.

Torbay in South Devon is also known as the English Riviera. Consisting of Torquay, Paignton with docks and Brixham, this bay has 20 beaches and small coves along the 22 mile (35 km) coastline, ranging from secluded coves to more promenade beach styles than Torquay's Torre Abbey Sands and Paignton Sands.

However, the British coastal resorts have faced increasingly fierce competition from the more bland traditional resorts overseas since the 1970s. In 1975, about 9,000 British families were on holiday abroad, but by the mid-1980s that number had risen to about 20,000. A decade later, the figure was about 30,000. This is largely due to the falling prices of air travel by Conservative government Margaret Thatcher (elected in 1979) has been allowed. The decline is discussed in Morrissey's song 'Everyday Is Like Sunday' where everyday life in the resort is likened to a street void once linked to a store closing on Sunday.

United States

With a coastline of 3,800 miles (6100 km), the continental United States has hundreds of seaside resorts on three beaches, the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Pacific Ocean. Unlike in many smaller countries, US seaside resorts are located in various climatic zones, with major differences in topography and the environment. Many American seaside resorts are popular destinations worldwide, known for their climate, culture, and entertainment opportunities.

America's waterfront resort was first developed near major industrial cities on the upper East Coast such as New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston. Cape May, New Jersey, and Provincetown, MA, are two of the first seaside resorts of the 1800s that served city workers in Philadelphia, New York and Boston. Cape May is often called America's "first waterfront resort". The early arrival of Cape May as a summer resort is due to the easy transportation with water from Philadelphia to the Atlantic Ocean. The early Cape May travelers were taken to town by small boat from Philadelphia, and water transportation was also easy from New York, Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and pointing south. Business resorts in Cape May began to flourish when regular steamboat traffic on the Delaware River began after the War of 1812. Initial visitors to Cape May included Henry Clay in 1847, and Abraham Lincoln in 1849. Today, the Cape May Historic District is one the largest and most well-preserved example of Victoria architecture in the United States.

On the southern Atlantic coast, Henry Flagler has the idea of making St. St. Augustine, Florida as a winter resort. He built several rail lines in the south, combining them with the existing pathway to create the Florida East Coast Railway in 1885. He built a railroad bridge over the St. John River. Johns in 1888, opened the Atlantic coast of Florida for development. In 1887, Flagler began construction of two large ornate hotels in St. Louis. Augustine, 540 rooms Ponce de Leon Hotel and Hotel Alcazar, and purchased Casa Monica Hotel the following year.

In Miami, Florida, the Cocoanut community (now Coconut) Grove began to be developed as a resort town in the 1880s with the construction of Bayview House (aka Peacock Inn) closed in 1902. Visitors to the greater Miami area then flocked to Kamp Biscayne (in Coconut Grove), Royal Palm Hotel in Downtown Miami, and other resort hotels in Miami, as well as in smaller numbers to Florida Keys. In 1894, the luxurious Royal Poinciana Hotel opened in Palm Beach, Florida, with a warm welcome from the wealthy New Yorkers who chose oranges in January for their enjoyment. In the Gulf of Mexico, Galveston City emerged as a booming city, and in 1882, architect Nicholas J. Clayton designed the Beach Hotel. In 1888, Galveston, TX was a rich city and a brilliant beachfront playground for wealthy New Orleans businessmen.

On the Pacific coast of California, in April 1886, Babcock and Story created the Coronado Beach Company, which sought to develop Coronado as a seaside resort. In the mid-1880s, the San Diego area was in the midst of one of its first real estate booms. Hotel del Coronado was built in March 1887, with Babcock's vision for hotels built around a courtyard of tropical trees, shrubs and flowers, with wings to feed full value for views of the sea, bay and city. In 1915, more hotels were built along the coastline of Los Angeles to cater to the wealthy traveler and Hollywood filmmakers. In May 1926, E.A.'s brother "Jack" Harter and T.D. "Til" Harter built the Casa del Mar Hotel in Santa Monica, costing $ 2 million, creating one of the most successful beach clubs in Southern California, popular with Hollywood socialites and celebrities.

In the 1920s, Carl Fisher was the principal promoter of Miami Beach, and helped develop the city as a seaside resort. To accommodate the wealthy tourists, several major hotels were built, among them the Flamingo Hotel. In 1926, The Breakers big hotel in Palm Beach has been rebuilt, and there is a huge northern tourist industry on the southern Florida coast. In the 1950s with increased auto travel, more seaside resorts grew along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, while the small and declining industrial ports were being rebuilt. In 1954, Fontainebleau Miami Beach, and considered, (at the time) the most luxurious beach hotel in the world.

In the modern era, hundreds of seaside resorts are now the Gulf, Atlantic and Pacific beaches of the United States. Many Americans move on with seasons when they visit seaside resorts, vacation in the warmer north coast (April to October), and then move to the southern winter (November to March). Many seaside resorts in Florida and California, however, see travelers throughout the year.
