A pre-school teacher is a type of early childhood educator who instructs children from 2 to 4, who stand as the youngest stretch of early childhood education. Teachers of Early Childhood Education need to describe the continuum of children from birth to 8 years of age.
Preschool teachers are encouraged to hold credentials in Early Childhood Education in the form of Child Development Accreditation (CDA) or formal education in Early Childhood colleges or related subjects.
The term "preschool" refers to instructions in non-public arenas such as licensed preschools, childcare centers, family day care centers, day care centers, central-based programs, federal programs such as Head Start, and full private children or part-day centers or a day-care center sponsored by a religious body. The term "pre-kindergarten" refers to the lead teacher who offers instruction in the program for four-year-olds who are funded as part of the public school system.
Preschool teachers should be able to work well and interact with small children, sometimes as young as 2 years and 9 months. Preschoolers have short attention spans and their concerns are usually quite simple. Most preschoolers are loving, affectionate, playful, and play games, read, or play with toys.
