Moodabidri (also called Mudbidri , Moodbidre and Bedra ), is a town in the Kannada Dakshina district. It lies 34 km northeast of the district headquarters, Mangalore city, in Karnataka, India.
Due to the bamboo growing widely in ancient times, this place is named as Moodabidri . Moodabidri comes from two words: Moodu and Bidiru . Moodu means East and Bidiru means bamboo .
The average elevation is 147 meters (482 feet).

In the 2001 Indian census, Moodabidri had a population of 25,710. Men constitute 48% of the population and 52% of women. Moodabidri has an average literacy rate of 88.57%, men's literacy rate of 93.13%, and women's literacy rate of 84.13%.
Moodabidri basically contains two villages: Pranthya and Marnad. Moodabidri is also referred to as "Jaina Kashi (??????) from the South".

Moodabidri is on National Highway 169 (NH 13 old). It can be accessed from Mangalore city (34 km away) by road. Mangalore International Airport is 23 km from Moodabidri.
It is 54 km from Udupi and 18 km from Karkala. Other nearby places are Venur (20 km), Belthangady (37 km), Kudremukh (66 km), Agumbe (68 km), Puttur (54 km) and Mijar (5 km)
Language
Tulu is spoken by the majority of the population, followed by Konkani and Kannada. Small Muslim populations speak Beary and Urdu.
Hospitals and nursing homes
Moodabidri has a state-run health center. Hospitals have improved in recent years. Medical supplies to hospitals are stable and medicines are available for all common ailments. Good quality doctors, including dentists, are available and general practitioner practice. The hospital has an X-ray machine, a dental chair, and an ambulance facility.
Private hospital services (allopathic and ayurvedic) are available. Some hospitals are Alva's nursing home, Prabhu Hospital, G.V. Pai Hospital, dental clinic such as Dr. Dental Clinic. Parveen, Dr. Hegde Dental Specialist Clinic, and Dr.Shinaj dental clinic. Alva's Health Center is a holistic center for calming patients. There is an ayurvedic wing with all the rare ayurveda plants in Shobhavana, near Mijar, the outskirts of Moodbidre. In 2014, the Ever Care Clinic opens, focusing on the management and treatment of chronic diseases.
The city also has an animal hospital that is treated fairly well with veterinarians and veterinary inspectors.
Religion and culture
Jainism and still practiced strongly in Moodabidri. The Thousand Pillar Temple (Saavira Kambada Basadi) is a holy place that is well known and sacred to Jains all over the country. It also has Guru Basadi who keeps precious Dhavala texts. There are other Basadis: Ammanvara Basadi and Leppada Basadi. There are several Jain temples in Moodbidri.
There are a number of Hindu temples in Moodbidri as well. Hanuman Moodbidri Temple is one of Hanuman's famous temples. Here devoties offer soft coconut as an offering to God. On Saturday, an average of about four to five thousand soft coconuts were offered to Lord Hanuman.
Shri Venkataramana Temple is a stone built (?????????????), famous for the celebration of Karthika Deepotsava (????????????), sacred, keredeepotsava (?? ?????????), Sharada Mahotsava (???????????), and other functions. There are beautifully carved Dashavatar statues on other porches. Large peeple trees provide a cool breeze that refreshes mind and body.
A large number of Roman Catholic practices in Moodbidri. There are about 11 churches in and around Moodbidri Varado. Among them, the 16th century Portuguese-built church of Igreja da Santa Cruz Hospet or the famous Hospet Church.
Traditions and festivals
Hulivesha
Hulivesha (Harimau dance) is a unique folk dance form in Dakshina Kannada. Since the tiger is considered the preferred Goddess Goddess carrier (god of honor Terberra celebrated), the dance is performed during the feastings of Dussera. It was also done during other festivals such as Krishna Janmasthami and Ganesh Chathurthi. Moodbidri is famous for Hulivesha performed on Ganesha Chathurthi like Mangalore which is famous for Dashera Hulivesha and Udupi for Janmashtami Hulivesha.
Selama Navaratri, who is a member of Shri Lakshmi Venkateshwara, Ponnechari, Moodabidri, has been a member of the Sarvajanika Samithi and is a member of the community. Idola Sharada Maathe dismissed Kuil Venkataramana Moodabidri and asked him to go back to his home.
Maari Pooja atau Rashi Pooja

Kambala or buffalo competition is done in rice fields filled with water. Rani Abbakka Kambala stadium was built at Kadala Kere Nisarga Dhama. Every year Kambla is held here for two days. Mijar Jodu Kambla is another event that happens, to be seen.
Korikatta âââ ⬠<â â¬
Korikatta (chicken fighting) is another favorite sport for the villagers at the annual festival of the temples. For its supporters, cockfighting, ancient sports involving fights between specially preserved birds in the temple area in the northern part of Kasaragod, not blood sports but features the rich cultural heritage of Tulunadu and ancient rituals associated with 'daivasthanams' (temples) here.
Nagaradhane
Nagaradhane is a popular tourist destination and is a popular destination for people of Nag Devata and has a lot of experience in the city.

Muslim Idul Fitri
Muslim Idul Fitri (End of Ramadan) Eid al-Adha, Ashura/Muharram Day, Milad un Nabi Muslim celebrate Uroos in Dargas every year.
Rathotsava
Jain has Jain Milans every year. All Jaina Basadi celebrate Ratotsava with greatness. Each is valid for seven days.
Santhmari
This is an annual festival celebrated by Christians at Alangar Church and Corpus Christi Church.
Education
Moodabidri has elementary school, senior high school, high school, junior college and first class college. Among the various high schools in town, Babu Rajendra Prasad High School is one of the oldest high schools, celebrating its golden anniversary in 2016-2017. It has been managed by Mahaveera Vidyvrdhaka Sanga, Regd. Moodbidri. This is a Kannada high school that has 300 students. Sri Dhavala College & amp; Jain PU College sponsored by DJVV Sanga, Sri Mahaveera College & amp; S N M Polytehcnic, led by the Manipal Academy. It has 22 elementary and higher schools, five secondary schools. There are also schools of C.B.S.E like Little Stars Indian School etc.
Alva Education Foundation has become one of the leading educational institutions in Karnataka, namely educational facilities ranging from high school to post graduation education. Alva is slowly turning the city of Jain Temple into a thriving educational city. It has graduation programs in Education, Medical, Medical & amp; Technique.

History
Moodabidri was ruled by the 1603 Jain Chauta dynasty, who moved their capital to Moodabidri in 1603. They lost power when the area was taken over by Tipu Sultan. They continued the symbolic ritual after the British defeated the Tipu Sultan. The last coronation in Moodabidri was performed in 1865 according to pattavali.
There are 18 lakes, 18 Jaina Basadis, 18 temples, and 18 roads connecting various villages in Moodbidri.
During the 14th-16th century, the city emerged as the center of Jain's religion, culture, art and architecture. 18 The Jain Temple, known as the Basadis, was built during this period. Jain Math at Moodabidri is headed by a Bhattaraka who became part of the order of Mula Sangh.
The most famous of them are Guru basadi, Tribhuvana Tilaka Chudamani Basadi (known as the "Temple of Thousand Pillars") and Ammanavara Basadi.
- The basement teacher is the earliest of the Jain monuments. The Parshwanatha stone statue, 3.5 meters tall, is installed in this basadi sanctum. Here the rare Jain palm leaf from the 12th century A.D. known as the 'Dhavala text' is preserved.
- Saavira Kambada Basadi basadi is the largest and most ornate of Jain temples in the region. People also call this temple Thousand Pillared Temple or Tribhuvana Tilaka Chudamani. It is a large granite stone temple built in 1430 A.D. Bronze statue with a height of 2.5 meters from Lord Chandranatha Swami in sanctum basadi is considered very sacred. This three-story construction is supported by the rulers, Jain Bhattaraka Swamiji, traders and ordinary people. This temple is famous for its open pillared hall in front, consisting of various ornate pillars decorated with carvings typical Vijayanagara style. A 15-meter-high stone pillar called manastambha stands in front of the basement.
- Ratnakara Varni , medieval Kannada writer Bharatesha Vaibhava (????????) belongs to this place. The famous Jain canonical texts known as the Dhavala texts as well as a number of manuscripts of historical value and literacy are kept in the Jain Math (monastery).
Moodabidri is the seat of Chowtas, a Jain ruler family, originally located in Puthige, about 5 km from here. They transferred their capital to Moodabidri in the 17th century. The remains of the 17th-century Chowta Palace are known for their carved wooden pillars and ceilings.
- Gowri Temple in the heart of the city is said to have been built in the 7th century.
- Hanoman Temple in the heart of the city is the most famous temple around Moodbidri. People of different faiths including Hindus, Muslims, and Christians offer prayers to Lord Hanuman.
Sports
Annual and monthly sporting events are held by Swaraj Maidhan and SMC Ground. Country-level meetings and national sports are held here. Cricket, volleyball, badminton, and various types of matches are played. Lots of light cricket and volleyball matches are held here. The Alva Education Foundation has organized many state and national sports here.
Industry
Small-scale industry employs many people. Many cashew industries here. Kadale Kere is an industrial area where many small-scale industries are located.
Transport facility
Long distance travel and local transport
Local and long-distance transport including buses that are routinely disconnected. Shuttle and express buses to Mangalore, Udupi, Karkala, Shimoga, Kudremukh, Sringeri, Dharmastala, Bantwal, Belthangady, Naravi and Mulki take place every 5-10 minutes.
There are government buses to distant places like Bangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Dharwad, Subramanya, Chickmagalur, and all the important places in Karnataka. Private buses from Moodabidri are also available in Bombay, Goa and Bangalore with established trips such as Navami, Nishmitha, Sugama, Vishal, Ideal, and Anand.
Entertainment
The other entertainment is Yakshagana, unique in this district. These include epic drama epics, which lasted all night, beginning at 9:30 pm and ending at 6 am the following day. It is played normally once a week, and only in a few months of the year.
