Market: Fresh Agricultural Supermarket is a top-class grocery store specializing in urban customers. Owned and operated by Virginia Beach, Farm Fresh Food & amp; Virginia; Pharmacy. The market has three locations, two of which are in Norfolk, Virginia, and the original location is in Richmond, Virginia. The first store is an independently owned and operated grocery store that is closed due to financial problems. The store distributor, SuperValu, requires the store to reopen and submit operations to FF Acquisition LLC.
The market is known for every location named after its neighborhood: Richmond "Market on Tobacco Row," Norfolk "Market in Ghent," and "Market at Harbor Heights." Each specialty store in something that stands out in the neighborhood they serve, eg "Market in Ghent" is located in an environment with a large Jewish population; therefore it contains a large halal food section. All Market locations contain major bakeries, delicatessen, seafood shops, butchers, and wine specialists along with gourmet chefs on staff to prepare meals to take home at the Chef's Corner store.
The main chain store at Harbor Heights in downtown Norfolk closed the first half of 2011 after it opened for just four years. The original location in Tobacco Row was renamed Farm Fresh Supermarket during the third quarter of 2011 and the location of Ghent was renamed to Farm Fresh Supermarket in November 2011.
Farm Fresh Food and Pharmacy and The Market are wholly owned subsidiaries of Eden Prairie, Minnesota based SuperValu, Inc.
