History
In the pre-Columbian era, Juan Dolio was the resident site of the Tayas residents of Taço, known as El Corral with his funeral near the western tip of the bay. Natural Gulf of Playa Juan Dolio protected by coral reefs in front are used as ports for their canoes. Sometimes archaeological findings are still made in the central area of ââJuan Dolio.
Since the late nineteenth century, the community of Juan Dolio is part of the municipality of San JosÃÆ'à © de los Llanos. On May 8, 1884, with Decision No. 2223, the community of Juan Dolio
Legal foundation of Juan Dolio tourist destination, starting with the enactment of Decree No. 3133 dated January 23, 1973, which sets limits and extensions of areas inhabited by fishermen and farmers. During the late 1980s Juan Dolio became one of the first tourist resorts in the country and exclusive destinations for mainly European tourists. Then the business concept of the All-inclusive resort offered by various hotels leads to the explosion of tourism and the construction of a new hotel in the western part of Juan Dolio, Villas Del Mar. In 1995, hotels in Juan Dolio had a daily average of 5,500 tourists. After Hurricane Georges destroyed Juan Dolio in 1998, many hotel chains moved their business eastward where the new tourist destination BÃÆ'ávaro-Punta Cana had just been built from the ground. The damaged resort owner at Juan Dolio has the problem of attracting new business partners and most of the beach hotels are closed. Some of the older hotels were demolished and became a development site for real estate projects.
With low cost properties after the storm damage, developers find new opportunities and start a second home project in the area. Projects like Guavaberry Golf Club and Metro Country Club are becoming very popular.
Since 2006 Juan Dolio is a part of the municipality of Guayacanes , the last district in San Pedro de MacorÃÆ's province, created by Law no. 203-06 dated 3 May 2006 Established officially in December 2007, the city council of Guayacanes is now also responsible for the administration of Juan Dolio .
Infrastructure
The elongated village center is located near the bay of Playa Juan Dolio , which is a popular beach among locals and visitors. The bay is also used by some of the local fishermen left to land their boats.
In the north-west of the city center lies the district of Mar Del Sol , in the north lies a gated community of Metro Golf & amp; Country Club and to the east of the center start the Villas Del Mar district. The western part of Juan Dolio is adjacent to the neighboring community and district administrative headquarters, Guayacanes .
The village is traversed by the main road, Calle Principal , runs parallel to the beach and access road Boulevard . On weekend Calle Principal can be pushed only from one direction from west to east. Located along the main street are many small shops, restaurants, bars, guesthouses, mostly small residential buildings and occasional high rise apartment buildings.
Newly created during the last two decades, at the eastern end of Calle Principal began the district of Villas Del Mar, which also houses two major seaside resorts of Juan Dolio . Strongly financially strong investors have used Villas Del Mar in the past repeatedly for their real estate development projects. This zone is characterized by modern high-rise apartment towers and several luxury housing complexes, in some cases still under construction.
Beach
The beach at the community center, Playa Juan Dolio , is publicly accessible and provides parking spaces for visitors. The view from the main road to the beach of Playa del Mar , Playa Real , is blocked by high-rise condo buildings. Free access to Playa Real is often limited by private security personnel from different condominium towers along the coast. All beaches in different parts of Juan Dolio are updated and extended in government projects in winter 2006/07 and are interesting, especially on weekends, the more visitors. Juan Dolio's public beach , Playa Juan Dolio , is not as famous as the coastal tourist town of Boca Chica for example, but it seems more natural and pure. Coconut trees grow on the sand, the sea is turquoise and there is no big hotel in sight.
