A John Daly is an alcoholic beverage consisting of lemonade, iced tea, and vodka, named after American John Daly. It can also be made with lemonade and sweet tea vodka (infusion vodka). This drink is an alcoholic version of Arnold Palmer (also named after an American golfer). His name is a tongue-to-pip nod to Daly's problem with alcohol abuse.
This drink was originally made popular at Whiskey Creek Golf Course in Fort Myers, Florida, by Darty Lewis bartender during 2005 Daly runs in Kotor Open Gator. Daly considers the unauthorized use of his name to be a trademark infringement. In response, Daly formed GIASI Beverage Company in 2010 with two close friends. Daly is the majority shareholder. GIASI is an abbreviation of "Grip It And Sip It", a play on the words "Grip it and Rip it". Sucked by Frank-Lin Distiller in Fairfield, California, Genuine Chef John Daly officially came to market in 2013. The initial reach in California and Nevada has swept into 13 states including states in Arkansas, Texas and Illinois. GIASI offers three different flavors of 30 proof ABV vodka made from READY TO DRINK cocktails: sweet tea/lemonade, peach tea/lemonade, and raspberry/lemonade tea.
