Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) is an active police organization in Costa Mesa, California.

Organization
The department authorized 130 officers plus civilian support staff. The sworn personnel were represented by the Costa Mesa Police Association. The department's website seems to indicate the agency is operating a motorcycle patrol and a SWAT team.
The Department divides the city into Area 1 and Area 2 (divided into two individual beats patrols), the two areas ordered by an officer in the rank of lieutenant.
Support Services include Detective Bureau, Helicopter Bureau, Traffic Safety Bureau, and Communication Division.
The Detective Bureau has three details, Property Crime, Economic Crime, and Crime Against People.
Technical Services include Prisons, Property Bureaus and Evidence, Biro Note, Training Bureau and Recruitment Bureau.
The department also has an Animal Control Section

Air collision
On March 10, 1987, a helicopter from the CMPD collided with another helicopter operated by Newport Beach Police Department. Both crew members on the CMPD plane were killed, while other aircraft could land safely.
