Color fastness is a term - used in the coloring of textile materials - which characterizes the material's color resistance to fade or walk. The term is usually used in the context of clothing. The use of the first known word colorfast was in 1916. In general, clothing should be tested for color resistance before using bleach or other cleaning products.
Lightness, fastness, and fastness are major forms of standardized color fastness. Textile dye light textures are categorized from one to eight and fastness from one to five, with higher numbers indicating better speed.
