USS YMS-328 is a class of YMS-1 US Navy (YMS-135 subclass) Yard Mine Sweeper (YMS), built at Ballard, Washington at Ballard Marine & ; Railway in Ballard, Washington (Seattle). She is classified as a Mark II design and her hull is built entirely from 3 "Douglas-fir's vertical grains.Sharbor ships include Jacques Cousteau's RVÃ, Calypso. After the naval service during World War II, yacht personally renamed Wild Goose he is most famous for having been owned by actor John Wayne.The ship is listed on the US National Historic Site List on July 19, 2011.
YMS-328 was sent on May 26, 1943. He served on the Aleutian Islands during World War II, wiped out enemy mines in Attu and the US minefield in Kiska, and patrolled outside Adak. He was on his way to the Dutch Harbor to be installed for the invasion of Paramishiru Island in Japan, when the Japanese surrendered. YMS-328 returns to Bremerton, Washington. He was struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1946.
YMS-328 was sold privately in 1948 to Vancouver Tug & amp; The barge owner Harold Jones. She named her La Beverie . After Jones's death in 1956, billionaire Max Wyman bought a yacht and changed his name to Wild Goose II . Wyman roamed the world on yachts including Tahiti, Bora Bora, and Hawaii. In 1962, he was bought by John Wayne and underwent major renovations. Wayne changed his name to Wild Goose . He kept the ship for the last 17 years of his life. He comforted who at that time included Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan.
Wild Goose is featured in the 1968 film Skidoo where she is a yacht named Mother from a closed mob boss named "God" played by Groucho Marx. Cruise ships are widely used with scenes taken from the exterior and in the home of wheels, cabins, engine rooms, upper and lower decks. The ship was also featured in the 1967 film Analyst President , duplicated as a Canadian spy ship.
The ship's journey was well documented during Wayne's ownership in 1993's book On Board with the Duke written by his former captain Bert Minshall. Minshall was at Wild Goose for 16 years with Wayne. The ship is still operating for a dinner cruise in Newport Beach, California by Hornblower Cruises.
