The second season Shear Genius premiered on June 25, 2008 in Bravo. This season features 12 stylist competing in various challenges to be declared the winner of Shear Genius. Jaclyn Smith and Rene Fris return as their respective hosts and mentors. Sally Hershberger and Michael Carl were replaced by Kim Vo and Kelly Atterton as judges.

Short Cut Challenges: Every hairdresser is cutting the hair of their clients when blindfolded. They were given five minutes to discuss the style with their clients first (no blinders) and forty-five minutes to cut. Clients are given safety goggles to wear during a challenge. The ranking stylist rated by Kim Vo judge based on their technique.

Elimination Challenge: Based on the order of the Short Cut challenge, each stylist selects the cartoon model and character of their choice. The characters represented were Wilma Flintstone, Judy Jetson, Betty Boop, Lucy van Pelt, Jem, and Marge Simpson; each represented twice to allow comparison between two different styles. They are given two hours to complete the style based on cartoon characters, and are judged by their creativity, technical skills, and interpretation of the style. Charlie, Nekisa and Daniel are in third, with Charlie third, second Nekisa and Daniel winner.

Short Cut Challenges: Each stylist is to create a short cut style section of various models in 45 minutes; the winner of the previous episode elimination challenge (Daniel) selects his client first, and then selects another client sequence. Nicole and Charlie are considered the best by Tabatha, while Paulo and Nekisa end up as the bottom two, with Nekisa being the worst.

Challenge of Removal: Each stylist is assigned as one of The Real Housewives of Orange County stars, and to create a new look for models that incorporate color changes while still putting a touch in style and respect the wishes of their clients. To select clients, each stylist chooses a numbered orange before the challenge in their home, and this is matched to the same orange count that Housewives owns.

Episode 3: Red Carpet Layak?
First Airing: July 9, 2008
Short Cut Challenge: Each stylist is to create technical work on their clients, whose hair ranges from thirty to over sixty inches. They must create this masterpiece without cutting any hair from their clients' hair. The stylist also has a selection of accessories to choose from, and must insert at least one accessory into their hairstyle. Accessories include flowers, strands of pearl necklaces, marble pens and tiaras. The winner will have the advantage of having a first-choice client, and determine the order in which the stylist will choose his/her clients. Matthew and Charlie did their best in the challenge, and Matthew won. Nekisa and Nicole do the worst in the challenge, and Nekisa is considered the worst cut because of the lack of accessories in her hairstyle.

Challenge of Removal: The stylist should choose a red carpet dress, in the order that Matthew decides to select them. After this they have to create a hairstyle that would be suitable for red carpet events. The hair design is judged on the actual red carpet. It will be possible to see if the hair will survive for the actual event, or if it will fail to become Shear Genius.

Short Cut Challenge The stylist is assigned not only to do their own clients, but also to clients from other stylist. After some time, the stylists will be asked to stop working on their clients, and clients will be transformed into different stylist as instructed. The stylist can then take from the hairdresser before, or choose to start something completely new. To determine their first client, the hairdresser is given a scissor box with a different colored comb in it, and the client with a comb that matches the stylist will become the first client of the stylist. Dee and Daniel were voted the top 2 with the best finish. Meredith and Nekisa are the bottom 2 and Meredith is called the worst.

Challenge of Removal: Stylists are challenged to create hairstyles for clients, that clients can replicate at home. The stylist is given time to teach their clients the hairstyle they give them. The next day, the client returns to the Shear Genius salon and re-creates their best ability, the hairdressers each gave them the day before. Stylists are not allowed to assist any client. Glenn, Nicole, and Dee did their best when Glenn won. Charlie, Nekisa, and Meredith are under 3 and Charlie was first safe because of his immunity for his victory last week. Nekisa and Meredith landed below 2, and Meredith's safety knocked him out.

Short Cut Challenge The first stylist selects sandals that have numbers on it, then stylists walk to the beach and realize that the numbers will fit the model. Hairdressers are asked to cut surfers' hair as they come directly from the ocean, without proper washing. Glenn and Daniel are the worst, but Glenn called the worst for the day. Dee and Nicole do their best and Nicole wins the shortcut challenge.

Challenge of Removal: Because Nicole won the shortcut challenge, she has the client's first choice and must decide the order in the elimination challenge. The order is as follows:

Hairdressers have to cut wigs for people with Alopecia. Nicole was really emotional during that time, and did not care if she was eliminated, because customers were more important than competitors. Nicole and Paulo are the top 2. Paulo won the challenge, while Charlie, Nekisa, and Gail were under 3. Charlie landed under 2 with Gail but survived and Gail was knocked out.

Short Chop Challenge : Hairdressers have four hours to dye their clients' hair in lively rainbow colors. Kim Vo judges them. Nekisa and Paulo did the worst in the challenge, but Paulo called the worst of the day. Dee and Charlie did their best, and Charlie won.

Challenge of Removal : The stylist is paired on 3 teams 2 to work on customers who want hair from Charlie's Angels show. Because Charlie won the Fast Cut Challenge, he decided on the team and did not take part in the challenge. The teams are:

It seems that nothing works and no one wins the challenge of elimination. Nekisa's hair for Farrah's hair and Glenn for Jaclyn landed them under 2. Jaclyn Smith said she would not wear Jaclyn's hair that time or now. The judges said that Farrah's hair was too safe but it was better than Jaclyn's style so Nekisa stayed and Glenn cut off.

Episode 7: Every Dog Has a Day

Short Cut Challenges : Hairdressers create unique and futuristic hairstyles using natural foods found in the kitchen, such as honey, flour, salt, egg whites and peanut butter. Nicole was declared the worst. Paulo, Dee, and Daniel did their best.

Elimination Challenges : The stylist is responsible for not only caring for dogs, but also for arranging the hairstyles of their clients to resemble their dogs.
Nekisa receives criticism for dog hairstyles and clients who are not like each other. Charlie was also criticized for making his clients look equally unfortunate and crazy at the same time.

Short Challenge Challenge: The stylist uses the scissors box to determine the order of selecting clients. The stylist must create a look that matches the personality of their clients after they know them a bit. Then, a little later the stylist finds that they are "ordered twice", and that they should make a different look to their client's identical twins. The winner is downgraded to get a permanent spot in the final 3.

They were assigned to create appearances to tell the story of a woman during the age of eighteen, thirty, forty-five, and sixty years in her life. Each stylist selects a scissor box that holds the hair lock, showing the hair color of the model they will be working on.
